In Melbourne we visited Captain Cook's parents' cottage, built in Great Ayton, England in 1755 and brought to Melbourne in 1934. James Cook was born in 1728 and went to sea in 1746 so spent little time in this house. In 1770 Cook claimed Australia for the British and mapped the east coast from below Sydney to the Torres Straits.
